It was fun and curiosity this week in Primary 5 and 6 as the pupils investigated the science behind releasing distress flares. The children explored the effects of forces by making rocket balloons and used their knowledge of thrust, gravity and air resistance to complete a STEM challenge, designing and building a model rocket which could reach as high into the air as possible. Throughout the activities, the children displayed excellent problem solving and thinking skills and communicated their understanding of forces using the new scientific vocabulary they had gained from their investigations.
