☀️ Sun Scientists ☀️
24th Jun 2024
With summer well on its way, the Key Stage 2 children were learning about the intensity of the sun and how to protect themselves from harmful UV rays with the help of the Cancer Focus NI Sun Scientist project. The children planned and carried out four different experiments using UV beads:
- Investigate the intensity of sun’s UV rays in different environments around the school.
- Can sunscreen protect our skin from the sun’s UV rays?
- Can sunglasses protect our eyes from UV rays?
- Is the time between 11am and 3pm the most dangerous time to be in the sun?
The children even programmed their micro:bits to record the temperature for our final experiment! Very important learning from the outcomes of our experiments. Armed with UV bead bracelets and important knowledge, the children are now ready for a Sun Smart Summer!
